part 2 @Bonny - As sheep we want to trust our pastoral shepherds to lead us to green pastures and still waters, and to guard us from the wolves. Those who are elders are often shepherds, but often pastors are young and inexperienced and still trying to figure things out. They need solid elders in their church to help them stand together. Church leadership has every reason these days to be alert and wary of new teaching - wolves in sheep's clothing. Your comment about not discerning the Lord's body correctly is just one concept that people have yet to fully understand. What are your thoughts on "Discerning the Lord's body correctly...?"

@Bonny - What you say is likely true, but pastors do have a responsibility to guard their sheep, even if the sheep feel their pastor is being somewhat overprotective. You still have a free will and a brain, and you can research what you will as the Bereans did to "find out if it was so." So dig in, and study, but compare man's words with scripture - not man's words with man's words to see if they have any common agreement.. While some sheep can safely be Bereans others are easily swayed by every wind of doctrine. The care of the shepherd for his sheep is something precious.

Part 2 Maybe what people in denominational streams are missing is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to give them power to witness. Most of the dialog here is with talking heads in various denominations. The discussion of the gospel needs to be had with the unsaved. The saved are already converted. If what is preached is Christ crucified, a victorious overcoming life, confession and holiness in our lives, and full acceptance that grace is what saved us, then we can come to a common agreement and move on to reach the unsaved. If Rob Bell is trying to convert the converted or trying to dialogue with philosophers he will be caught in his own game. Just my opinion. Don't waste time in this dialog the harvest is ripe and the laborers are few. Get on the Lord's side and reach out to a hurting world with the life changing gospel of Jesus' power to change and set free.

Interesting video. Rob Bell says that maybe Jesus believes in us - after all Jesus left us with the great commission. And the disciples did it. Rob forgot to mention that Jesus didn't leave them alone to do it all on their lonesome. There was the Holy Spirit that came upon them. So Jesus did not leave us unable to do the job - he equipped us. However, the choice again was theirs to make, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit was pretty important for the disciples to move on from their salvation experience.

I have been raised in the evangelical church. I have been a leader in this stream for the past 35 years. I am presently on "sabbatical" from the rigors of institutional compliance and discovering, maybe for the first time, the "mind of Christ" within me communing and guiding me into a deeper relationship with the Good Shepherd.
I am weary of pastors who not only prohibit "their" flocks from listening to or reading what someone else may be exploring, but also make
the conversation suspect. Where is the
dialogue? Why are they so threatened? It's been
said that church leadership is more confident in Satan's ability to deceive believers than in our Shepherd's ability to lead believers.
And so the doctrine police continue to divide the Body of Christ into fragments (39,000 sects / denomination last I saw). Corinthians warns of "not rightly discerning the Body of Christ" which leaves us "sick and dying".
