Fear and Vendetta

Adapted from Allan Moore’s graphic novel of the same name, “V for Vendetta” tells the story of Evey Hammond and her unlikely but instrumental part in bringing down the fascist government that has taken control of a futuristic Great Britain. Saved from a life-and-death situation by a man in a Guy Fawkes mask who calls himself V, she learns a general summary of V’s past and, after a time, decides to help him bring down those who committed the atrocities that led to Britain being in the shape that it is in.

Few movies have moved me this past year. But V for Vendetta is one of those who have! A smart commentary on the wests (read USA and Great Britain) fear of not being in controll. Many parallells can be drawn to how fear is used today to controll nations (read USA and Great Britain) and politics in a certain direction.

The movie draws the absolute consequense of a government that uses fear as a method to do what it pleases. The use of fear to create jobs thru wars far away. Fear to earn money!

See V for Vendetta !

Where did “In God we trust” go ?

Just saw the movie “the road to Guantanamo” and I guess as movies like this are intended to do they touch your feelings in some way or other. Some people might call the movie anti american propaganda, some may call it the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The story is about 4 young lads from England who travel to one of the boys marriage. They for some reason decide to pop over to Afganistan where they get mixed up in the taliban war against the americans. They are soon taken captive by US soldiers who take them to Guantanamo bay as terrorist prisoners.

The movie has a documentary style to it all though it is actors doing the job all the way thru. If there is only a tiny ounce of truth to these innocent (i took this stance) boys tales..then shame on the US government for keeping innocent human beings prisoners and treating them worse than animals. I wanted to imagine and believe this would not be posible in a “Just and safe” USA.

No wonder young muslims and a big part of the world get a bad taste in its mouth when the name George Bush is mentioned. In god we trust and Justice for all are soon words and creeds in a far away history!!

Are you a fundamentalist ?

In my observance of different christian movements around today, the word fundamentalism often comes to mind. I want to share some thoughts on the word and define what i feel many christian God loving people boarder on and cross over too !

A fundamentalist is someone who puts religion (in this case christianity) into a system. To put order to religious experience. This often is used as a tool to exercise power over groups of people. Or be in control over a situation or be in control of ones faith and belief.
It often is born out of truth and out of a real and true experiance with God. “If God changed my life this specific way, then thats how he is going to change every one else.” “If I got healed like this, everyone else will also need to do this or do what i did to be healed! ” These are the kind of true experiances that start a fundamentalistic belief in a christian setting.
The opposite of fundamentalism is trust in the Holy Spirit. Not in a a man/woman influenced system. Not into a certain way of becoming righteous or finding God. The minute I put an ABC or the seven steps to this or that we take away the trust in Gods creative ability to move.
